Being a proud Hyderabadi, I sure have many favorites from the cuisine...but this is one of my most favorites that I'd like to share with you..The Authentic Hyderabadi Kheema..

Ingredients:
------------
2 lb Ground Goat Meat/Lamb
1 large red onion (thinly sliced)
3 Cloves
1 Cardamom (Elaichi)
a small piece of cinnamon/dalchini
few chopped mint leaves(optional)
Marinade:
---------
1 Tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
1 tsp Turmeric
2 tsp Red Chilli powder/Cayenne Pepper/paprika
2 tsp Salt
Gravy/Masala:
------------
2 tsp Dry coconut powder
2 Tbsp Yogurt/Curd
1 Tbsp Poppy seeds
Process:
--------
Marinate the kheema in the ingredients listed under marinade. Put it in the fridge.
Meanwhile, fry the onions so that they are light brown in color. Make a smooth paste.
Grind the coconut, poppyseeds mixture and add it to the yogurt and keep it aside.
Heat a wide pan,put some oil, add the cloves, cardamom and cinnamon, add the ground meat stir, add water as needed and cook the meat covered. Add salt if needed and chilli powder if needed and stir the meat periodically. If you have some mint leaves chop them up really well and add the meat. When the meat is almost cooked, add the yogurt mixture, mix it well with the meat and let it be absorbed by the meat. As the oil starts to separate, add the onion paste to the meat and mix it really well. Turn off the heat after a couple of minutes. Garnish with chopped cilantro.
ummm! Yummy Kheema is ready.
This Kheema is not only tasty.. but also an easier way to feed the kids with the lamb than the curries with chunks. The same recipe can be applied to Ground Turkey/Ground Chicken..though I personally like the Ground Lamb/Goat version the best :)Serve with Rice/Puri. Enjoy !
