Bottle Gourd Stew/Doodhi/ Sorakaya Pulusu

Ingredients:
-----------
1 Sorakaya/Bottle Gourd/ Doodhi/Dudhi
1 medium onion (sliced/chopped)

All the usual ingredients for Basic Seasoning

1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds (roasted and ground to a fine powder)
1 sprig Curry leaves
3 Green chillies(slit length-wise)
1 tsp Red Chilli powder
1 tsp Sugar
Salt to taste
some oil
Some cilantro for garnish
Lemon size tamarind ball
1/2 tsp Ginger+Garlic paste (optional)

Process:
--------
Cut the sorakaya into 1.5-2 inch pieces. In a wide pan, prepare the basic seasoning as in the recipe link mentioned above. Add the ginger garlic paste if using.. the onions, and stir for a minute or two. Add in the green chillies , curry leaves and then the sorakaya pieces. Saute for about 5-10 minutes. Meanwhile, soak the tamarind in about a cup of water. When its soaked a little bit (to speed up the process you can put it for 30 seconds in the microwave) squeeze the juice out. Keep it aside. Cook the sorakaya until the pieces are half cooked. Add salt and red chilli powder. Now add the tamarind juice. Let the stew simmer until the pieces are fully cooked. May be for about 10-15 minutes until the oil starts to ooze out on the top. Add the sesame powder, coriander powder and sugar. stir and let it simmer for a few minutes, adjust the taste as needed and turn off the heat.

Yummy Sorakaya pulusu is ready to eat. Serve with rice or chapathi. My son never gets tired of it. Neither do I.. :) Enjoy !
