Fish Stew or Chepala Pulusu is a traditional recipe that I learnt from my mom and mother-in-law. Ofcourse, I have tweaked it a bit to my convenience :)
Ingredients:
--------------
3 lbs CatFish Fillets / any other similar fish (Bomma/Korra meenu Fish)
4 green chillies
4 cloves
Red chilli powder
Red Onions
turmeric
salt to taste
1 Tbsp Ginger garlic paste
Lemon size ball of Tamarind
A pinch of Methi powder(roasted Fenugreek seeds powder) - Optional
Preparation:
-------------
Add ginger garlic paste, chilli powder, lime juice, salt and marinate the fish for sometime.
Grind the red onions into a smooth paste.
Process:
----------
Heat some oil in a wide flat pan. When the oil is hot and ready, add the cloves and cardomom. Then add the onion paste. Saute until the oil is golden brown in color. Add salt and stir. Add the marinated fish. And mix it up with onion. Let it cook. Be careful whenever you stir/turn the fish. It will be delicate once cooked and will get split into little chunks if you are not gentle with it. After the fish is half cooked, squeeze the tamarind juice by adding little water and add to the fish. Add salt as desired and chilli powder. Let the stew simmer to desired consistency. Add a pinch of fenugreek powder for added flavor. Serve hot/room temperature with Rice.
Serves 6. Enjoy !
